Spreading Christmas Cheer
by Bob Pusey
For the past 15 years, Christ the King in Alexandria, VA, gathers before Christmas for an evening of caroling through the streets of Old Town Alexandria. This beloved tradition brings together people of all ages from the church and the community.
This year, the event was as lively and heartwarming as ever, with 60 participants from the church and even more visitors joining in. The festivities began at the Starbucks on King Street, where the group warmed up before heading out to spread holiday cheer. From there, they made their way toward the town Christmas tree, filling the historic streets with joyful songs of the season.
Carolers handed out candy canes and invitations to the church, sharing not only music but also the message of hope and hospitality. Music sheets were distributed to onlookers, inviting them to join in, and many gladly accepted the opportunity.
As they approached the government center, around 30 people spontaneously joined the carolers, while a firetruck drove by with lights flashing, adding to the festive mood of the evening. Enjoy a video of the singing and photos below!
