A Logo Story: Church of the Good Shepherd (Charlottesville, VA)

Many of the churches in the Diocese have very intentional logos used as a part of their church’s story and mission. Church of the Good Shepherd, Charlottesville, VA, shares their logo and its inspiration.

Church of the Good Shepherd is an Anglican church plant in Charlottesville, Virginia. We are a community seeking to grow into Christ’s likeness for the glory of God, for the abundance of our own lives, and for the good of our neighbors.

Our logo was designed with these elements:

  • A processional cross centered in an archway, denoting our coming together into worship and going out into the world

  • Vine representing our abiding in Jesus the True Vine

  • Chalice denoting the Eucharist, in and through which we share communion with God and one another through Christ's sacrifice

  • A shepherd's crook to allude to God as our shepherd and Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd

  • A landscape denoted by a horizon line in reference to Psalm 23 and green pastures

  • Lamb with a flag representing both the people of God and Christ as the sacrificial lamb
