Taking It to the Street

by Vern Caswell

Or the shopping center.

Or the bike trail.

Holy Spirit Anglican Church in Lewes, DE is ministering in our community through several events each month. We just started our “water bottle ministry” at the bike trail just up the street from our building. We received many thank you’s for our efforts and even had one young lady call us angels! Many bikers already had their own water bottles but thanked us for doing this. We were able to get some exposure for our congregation and invite people to come and see what we are all about.

Our “Prayer Tent” is a monthly ministry at the Five Points Shopping Center. We have been doing this for over four years now, except for the long COVID break. We just have a couple of signs on the road directing people to our location, and we have NEVER been shut out. One day we had an atheist ask for prayer. We have had many people return months, even years later, to thank us for praying and to testify how God answered those prayers. It is such a privilege and blessing to pray for others and see God move. It has been interesting how complete strangers will open up their deepest needs to us and the Lord. There have been many people stopping by to thank us and several wanting to pray for us and bless our efforts. This has been such a great way to be in the community doing something that is easy to do and reaps kingdom benefits.

Our hope and prayer from taking it to the streets is that we show the love of Jesus to a needy and hurting world. And, at the same time, build up our experience and trust in the Lord as he uses us to his glory! So look for us if you are walking, or biking, or shopping in the Lewes area. We would love to chat and tell you about Jesus.

The Rev. Vern Caswell is Vicar of Holy Spirit Anglican Church in Lewes DE.
