Support for Anglican Church of Kenya Orphanage

by Charlie Baldwin

Church of the Apostles (COA) in Fairfax, VA, continues a 20-year tradition of supporting the St. Nicholas orphanage in Karen, Kenya, in the completion of a recent visit from November 6 – 18, 2023. In addition to bi-monthly financial support for food, operations, and school fees, COA provides facilities renovation, special meals, teaching, and mentoring on-site through annual visits. This truly provides hope and improves the lives of the 66 children supported by St. Nicholas.

Our visit to St. Nicholas provided teaching of the Word and mentorship for the Christian lives of the children. Specific support includes encouragement to the high school students and those that have gone on to college. Popcorn and movie nights, arts and crafts day, improved sports equipment, and a fried chicken dinner at the end of the visit were also provided. Support for their facilities included complete painting of youth hostel rooms and adjacent facilities, replacement and painting of the kitchen ceiling, and lighting repair. Bringing joy and love into the lives of these young people justifies the work and sacrifice for St. Nicholas. All paid for with their smiles and hugs!
