Showing the Love of Christ During Winter

by Alicia Greeley

Church of the Messiah, Chesapeake, VA had a recent outreach event with the Chesapeake Area Shelter Team (CAST). Until COVID, multiple churches took turns throughout the winter hosting homeless individuals and families in their churches, providing shelter, meals, fellowship, and the Word of God for a week at a time. With COVID, accommodations were switched to local hotels, with church volunteers providing meals and driving them to the hotel each night during their assigned week. While this doesn't offer the same opportunity to connect with the guests in person, we can still show the love of Christ through the provision of food.

The photos below show a few of our volunteers this year: drivers, donors, and dinner-makers.
