Holy Spirit Youth Dedicate a week to serving
by Sara Johnson
The youth group at Church of the Holy Spirit (Leesburg, VA) recently embarked on a meaningful service trip to Niagara Falls, New York. Partnering with YouthWorks, a nondenominational mission organization, our young members dedicated a week to serving a community in need.
Niagara Falls, once a bustling industrial hub, now faces significant economic challenges due to the decline of industry and stringent state regulations impacting the tax base. Despite these hardships, our youth were eager to make a difference.
During the trip, we collaborated with the Salvation Army to host a kids camp for 30 local children. The camp was a resounding success, filled with laughter, learning, and new friendships. In addition to the camp, our group volunteered at soup kitchens, participated in gardening projects, and helped with community cleaning efforts.
YouthWorks provided us with devotional materials and insightful talks centered on Ephesians 3:14-21. We focused on the theme of being rooted in Christ, working together to memorize these powerful verses. These spiritual activities not only deepened our faith but also strengthened our bond as a group.
Of course, no trip to Niagara Falls would be complete without experiencing the natural wonder itself. We wrapped up our week with a thrilling ride on the Maid of the Mist, taking in the breathtaking views and reflecting on our journey.
The youth worked tirelessly throughout the week, demonstrating incredible dedication and compassion. It was a week of hard work, spiritual growth, and unforgettable experiences. We are immensely proud of our youth group and their commitment to living out their faith through service.
