The Diocese of the Mid-Atlantic currently consists of 46 worshiping communities: 27 are self-sustaining congregations, 9 are mission churches, 3 are mission fellowships, and 3 are church plants in various stages of formation. They are located in Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC, Delaware, the eastern panhandle of West Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. (See map.) Our vision is to become a church planting network in which all of our churches are consistently working together to start new church plants. In its constitution and canons, the diocese provided for the formation of a permanent church planting leadership team, named the Great Commission Committee (GCC). This group is composed of veteran church planters with decades of experience leading church planting at diocesan and denominational levels. The GCC is led by the Rev. Tuck Bartholomew, who was appointed as the second Canon for Church Planting in 2021.
