But the Lord’s greatest promise was not merely about architecture, but it was a promise that He Himself would be there, abiding with His people. “I will be to her a wall of fire all around, declares the LORD, and I will be the glory in her midst” (2:5). He would be their protection outside the city, since Jerusalem had no walls of defense. And His very presence would be within the city as He once again came to dwell among them.
I love this time of year. The period from Thanksgiving through Christmas and New Year’s seems to blur into one long celebration. But I particularly love the anticipation that builds in the weeks before Christmas.
Well, I’ve driven through my first snowstorm of the season up here in Northern New York. More to follow. We have a saying at this time of year, “The Iceman Cometh.”
The birth of Jesus was not just some sentimental act. It was an act of redemption for us.
