The Bishop's Letters
Articles from February 2012
This week, with Ash Wednesday, we begin the season of Lent, a time of self-examination and repentance as we prepare for the observance of Jesus’ death and resurrection in Holy Week and Easter. The Church has long called its members to include fasting during Lent as a part of our personal discipline to help us go deeper with the Lord.
In God’s timing, on the Sunday following Judge Bellows’ ruling concerning the property of seven of our churches, Truro Church was blessed to hear a previously scheduled guest preacher, the Rev. Canon Andrew White. Canon White is the Vicar of St. George’s Church in Baghdad, the largest church in Iraq. In the face of horrific violence and persecution, St. George’s is thriving in its ministries as it proclaims the Gospel of Christ and every week feeds the hungry, and provides education and medical care to hundreds and hundreds of people.
