Hurricane Sandy, one of the largest and fiercest storms to strike the East Coast in years, affected more than 20 states. The winds and water destroyed thousands of homes, left millions without power and killed more than a hundred. The Anglican Relief and Development Fund (ARDF) is working with Anglican Dioceses and Parishes by the storm.
Bishop David Hicks, REC Diocese of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, is responsible for parishes in some of the hardest hit areas. He reported that most of the churches had only minor damage, but parishioners homes were destroyed and they are reaching out to the communities with food, water, shelter and spiritual encouragement in their surrounding neighborhoods.
