ADV Men’s Weekend One of the Best
By The Rev'd John Nuzum, Church of the Holy Spirit
The 2010 ADV Men’s Spiritual Life Weekend recently held at the Clarion Conference center in Shepherdstown, WV was filled with excitement as the men of the ADV listened to Holy Spirit-inspired teaching, worshiped together, and spent time in fellowship in small groups or around a meal. As the men arrived at the conference center they were greeted by The Rev. Wright Wall and his team from The Falls Church prior to Friday evenings teaching which was followed by a reception to meet the speakers, fellowship, and network with others from ADV churches.
Time was allotted for rest and relaxation on Saturday afternoon in ‘Wild & Wonderful West Virginia,’ as some of the men took advantage of the time to play golf, go rafting, walk historic sites, or just relaxed around the conference center. Not a complaint was heard during the weekend about the smorgasbord of great food served up by the hotel staff especially at Saturday evening’s meal of prime rib. The head chef had sustained a leg injury the previous day and had come to work in pain and while serving the carving line he was prayed for and received a healing in his leg. He later addressed the men and testified to the healing and thanked everyone for their prayers.
Weekend attendees heard inspired teachings from guest speakers, The Rev. Dr. Bobby Hill of Vanguard Ministries (Virginia Beach, VA), and our own Bishops Martyn Minns and David Bena based on the weekend’s theme “Courageous Leadership Inspired by the Holy Spirit.”
Spirit filled worship was experienced under the leadership of Music Minister, Chris Rothgeb, of Apostles Church, and supported by his father and sound technician, David Rothgeb. The worship team made quite an impression on everyone who attended the weekend. Some of the ADV men had brought their own musical instruments and were invited to join the worship team on stage to make for some outstanding worship music.
A Sunday morning message by Bobby Hill and Eucharist celebrated by The Rev. Clancy Nixon topped off the weekend prior to everyone heading home.
